Salsa Dancing Steps

Learning to Salsa dance is not difficult.

If you can keep a rhythm and count to 8, then you can dance salsa.

salsa dance stepsFirst start listening to Salsa music for the classic 4/4 rhythm. Count the beats until you can identify a set of two 4 beat rhythms. Salsa dance patterns bring into play a pause on the fourth-beat using three steps and typically transferring their weight from one foot to the next during the skipped beat. You begin the basics by modeling specific dance patterns into four-beat music. From there, you could now proceed to the 7 fundamental steps in learning how to dance salsa:

On the first count, step forward with your left foot. Next, step in place with your right and bring your left foot back to center on the third count. Then pause at the fourth count or you could optionally tap your right foot. At the counts 5, 6, and 7, step with your right foot behind you, step in place with your left and bring your right back to center and pause. Remember that each step requires a full weight transfer.

As salsa is a dance with partners, the follower’s basic is reversed stepping back on the right foot on the count of one and stepping forward with the left on the count of five.

That is all there is to the basic Salsa Pattern? Add a touch of grace in every swing, clap and turn in your movements and you actually develop a coordinated body and general deftness. You can also try wide variety of salsa dance styles according to unique step patterns, music and beat. Perhaps you want to specifically consider learning the elegant Cuban salsa dance or the flashy Los Angeles style.
